Heartland Payment Systems (founded 1997, acquired by Global Payments in 2016) is a major mid-market payment processor used across many industries including self-storage. Heartland offers credit and debit card processing, ACH, EMV-compliant terminals, and online payment capabilities. As part of Global Payments (the same parent as OpenEdge), Heartland provides an alternative path for storage operators who want a traditional merchant account relationship with a large national processor rather than a software-native embedded payment solution. Heartland added mandatory multi-factor authentication (MFA) for merchant portal access in early 2025.
